Hi Jeff, This is great that you've put the film on-line and taken the time to write the text. Please correct : "He had been commissioned by Swiss television to make this film..." NOT true ! I had the concept and spent a couple of years raising the money. Swiss TV and French TV (ARTE) co-produced the film, as a public service, saying "we have a responsibility to our public if any of this is true". It was also broadcast on televisions in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. Cheers, Peter

When I was doing research for my regainyourbrain web-site back in 2004 I read about a unique documentary which concerned the inner workings of the technology of television. I instantly realized the significance of such a film, even simply the fact that someone had been able to make it! I read excellent reviews of it, but a copy was nowhere to be found. A few years later, in 2008, in the process of expanding our archive of relevant docos, I decided to make a concerted effort to get this film, and finally got in touch with Peter Entell, an American-born film-maker now residing in Switzerland. He had been commissioned by Swiss television to make this film, which they then broadcast nation-wide. I was amazed and impressed. But this was in 2003, and since then, the film had been relegated to a shelf and was not even commercially available. Peter sent us the film; our interest inspired him to take up the project again, and now we’re able to present to you, free of charge, Entell’s 2009 re-edit of “The Tube.” His new version is a little “scarier”, to use his term, which is appropriate when you understand the reality of television.

“Television”, taken as a whole system, represents a vast convergence of technologies, techniques and cross-correlated paradigms. Entell’s film examines the foundation of television’s primary effects, which are at the physiological level. It’s not that the “content” doesn’t matter; this is the domain of programming and psychological warfare. Traditionally, and even today, most people think of television as “entertainment” which may also convey some “important” stuff here and there like “news”, “sport”, “educational programming” and, of course, the weather (which is likely to be the least fictional content). From its inception just after World War 2, however, military psy-strategists proclaimed tv to be “the atomic bomb of the mind” and recognized its power as a technology of indoctrination, distraction, and disinformation.

Wall Street and the advertsing milieu under-written by Edward Bernays had already been assimilated by Goebbels in Nazi Germany, and the resultant “next level” was imported back into the USA with Operation Paperclip, which brought in thousands of Nazi scientists, mostly psychiatrists, who took on new identities in positions of research and development. With the backing of Wall Street and the international banking cartel who had already executed a silent “coup d’etat” against the United States with the Glass-Owen Act of 1913 that established the Federal Reserve and central banking, Nazi Germany had almost succeeded in their goal of total world domination. And their most powerful weapon was what they called the “weltanschauungskrieg”, or “world-view warfare” which utilized state-of-the-art media technologies and “psychological techniques” to disempower and enslave their own people, as well as “the enemy”, which were in reality one and the same. The Nazis massively utilized radio as an instrument of coercion, and Goebbels pioneered the use of cinema as a propaganda tool, although with questionable success; as a show of superior German technology, the Nazis achieved the world’s first global television transmission with the 1939 Berlin Olympic games.

The powers that be were acutely aware of what television was and how it worked; huge “defense contracting” corporations like General Electric, who wsa simultaneously building nuclear reactors, began to supply televisions to millions of households nation-wide; Wall Street had an unprecedented marketing tool, Hollywood had an unbelievably powerful vehicle of “entertainment”, and the Pentagon and CIA had an astronomically subversive technology of mind-control for conducting “psychological warfare.”

First on their agenda was the “manufacture of consent” for atomic weapons and the “Cold War.” Dwight Eisenhour had warned of “the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex” and “The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power…” and his successor John F. Kennedy was keenly aware of the “secret government” and their adoption of “psychological warfare” techniques. Historically it is important to recognize the conjunction here of former Nazi scientists, the newly-created CIA (headed at this time by Allen Dulles, fired by JFK for the Bay of Pigs disaster, subsequently heading the Warren Commission, and who recruited former Nazi SS officer Reinhard Gehlen), and the advent of television.

Regardless of the content of programming, however, television affects us at the fundamental physiological level in terms of how the image is created and how our brains process these signals. It doesn’t matter “what’s on tv”, whether it be a gory war fest, Walt Disney’s story hour, or Sea Shepherd “battling” evil Japanese whalers (running in circles these days!)…no matter what show you’re watching, your brain is responding to the physiological effects of television in the same way.

And THIS is the biggest danger therein. As long as it’s ON, the effects are there, possibly even if you’re not even watching it!

Entell’s film is a much-needed introduction to a fully weaponized technology affecting almost everyone, even moreso because it’s thought of as “entertainment.” Nothing could be further from the truth, and this film proves the point, by ending up with an interview with Herbert Krugman, a former “brain-washing” expert from the Korean war who explains that, indeed, television was developed as a technology of hypnosis.

There’s a lot more that needs to be discussed, including what are believed to be fully-operational “non-lethal weapons” systems based on Tesla technologies which are able to fulfil Brzezinski’s vision of “a more controlled and directed society”, which extend far beyond the scope of television alone.

And ironically, you are reading this now and may watch “The Tube” on a computer monitor which relies on the very same image-creation processes as television. The biggest message we may get from “The Tube” is to use the “off” switch more often than the “on” switch. For now, enjoy…and be disturbed by…Entell’s brilliant film.
